Portinscale
The Mount is situated within the village
of Portinscale, which includes a friendly pub serving local
ales and an excellent selection of fine food, both at lunchtime
and in the evening. There is also a village tearoom and small
general store which can provide the basic essentials. The
village boasts two marinas where sailing, windsurfing and
canoeing are offered, either for instruction or hire. There
is a jetty at Nicol End marina from where you can step aboard
the motor launch that circuits the lake both ways and makes
stops at points around and including the main town of Keswick.
The location of Portinscale makes it ideal
for walks for all abilities. The Newlands Valley is just a
few minutes walk from the village, where you can find a plethora
of stunning walks at a relaxing pace. Borrowdale and Grange
are easily accessible by foot or by car, where you can experience
some of the most stunning views in the English Lakeland.
More serious walks are easily accessible from
the Mount, including Grisedale and Causey Pike. In nearby
Braithwaite, Winlatter Forest Park provides a fantastic range
of walking and cycling paths, along with the possibility to
view the Lakeland wildlife.
The C2C cycle route passes directly through Portinscale with bicycle hire shops located in Keswick.
Keswick is approximately one mile from the
village along a flat well defined path. Keswick is an old
market town that offers a wide range of services and attractions
for all ages. These include a weekly market on Saturdays,
the highly commended Theatre by the Lake, and for those looking
for retail therapy, a distinctive selection of shops to meet
many tastes and pockets. |
